Artist Statement
Bethany Thomas is a young artist studying BA Fine Art at The University of Plymouth. Currently in her final year she is looking to continue her studies by completing a ResM in Art Design and Architecture. Her practice focuses on portraiture and abstract expressionism. She often studies how life is perceived by individuals who cannot control their mind – aiming to portray mental illnesses.
She is a multi-disciplinary artist -her background is in painting and drawing and she has recently to produced digital and animated works. Thomas creates large scale installations and experiments with conceptual art. Thomas has looked heavily at abstract expressionism, action painting and the link between instinct and art. Thomas has an interest in the history and philosophy of art – particularly influenced by the notion of original thought.

Thomas feels the purpose of art to change someone for the better – even if it’s only one person.
